The tips are a separate thing — they're run by Nottinghamshire County Council, and there isn't one in Carlton itself despite what some listings claim. Your nearest options are Calverton (Hollinwood Lane, NG14 6NR) to the north, or West Bridgford (Rugby Road, NG2 7HX) across the river. Two things to sort before you go: you must register your vehicle with Nottinghamshire first (free, but you'll be turned away without it), and the opening hours change with the season — 8am–8pm April to September, but only 8am–4pm in January, February, November and December. Given the drive either way, a collection that comes to you is often the easier option for anything heavy.
